South of Jacksonville, the river city of Palatka combines art with local history in more than 30 murals spread throughout the city. You’ll see riverboats—which pre-dated Flagler’s railroad in bringing tourists here—as well as a large mural of American sharpshooter and folk legend Annie Oakley. Palatka is also where you’ll find the Larimer Arts Center, listed on the National Register and offering a rotating series of live theater, film events and gallery showings.
