Farther east along Florida’s Atlantic Coast, Flagler County is home to miles of connecting trails—including six designated Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trails—lined with historic oaks and towering pines. Steps from the ocean, Washington Oaks Gardens State Park features the only-in-Florida combination of stunning formal gardens, an ancient live oak hammock and coquina rock shoreline.

In St. Augustine, encounters with wildlife don’t get any bigger than what your clients will see at the city’s Alligator Farm Zoological Park, founded in 1893—making it one of the state’s oldest attractions—and featuring all 24 species in the crocodilian world. In the spring, the farm’s lagoon becomes the nesting grounds for hundreds of wading birds including roseate spoonbills, herons, egrets and wood storks. Recommend they see it from a bird’s-eye view at Crocodile Crossing, the Alligator Farm’s intense ropes and zipline course.

Also on Florida’s Historic Coast, the GTM Research Reserve is home to Guana Lake, where a mysterious glow of bioluminescence, created by billions of comb jellies, is visible each month during the new moon phase.
